Mr. Met, From Beginning to Miracle, Dies at 79
Newsday (September 10, 2024)

I’m 62 and moved from NY Long Island to Manchester NH. I’ve been here for 37 years, longer than on the Island. The Mets have been a huge part of my life. The old timers of 69 were and always will be my favorite. Growing up I was Tom Seaver and my pitch back was Jerry Grote. I played Little League in Hicksville and played for Smith Pharmacy. We went to our Little League dinner at Anton’s on Old Country Rd. Gary Gentry and Ron Swoboda were there big as life. After reading the story of Ed I wish I had a chance to meet him. He was always a favorite. The great part about baseball back then was that the you knew the same guys would be back on your team. That’s what Met fans loved. We loved our players. I had tears in my eyes when I was at the 50th reunion with my boys who also Met fans along with my daughter. I was happy when Ed got up to speak and talk about his team and today’s team. Today I look at that number 7 on the arm of the players uniforms and think back of the Crane playing 1st and the Great years I was able to watch. RIP # 7
